ARE SUMMER PROJECTS A WAY FOR MY STUDENT TO RELAX IN A FUN ENVIRONMENT?

NO. Summer Projects are not designed for the student who wants to take it easy. There will be plenty of time for your student to have fun, participate in social events, make memories, etc … but Summer Projects are so much more than this. Our goal is to develop young leaders. With this in mind, the schedule is fairly demanding with work, small group interactions, content, team leadership, listening to speakers and giving presentations.

WHAT IF I REALLY WANT MY STUDENT TO HAVE AN INTERNSHIP IN THE SUMMER?

In many ways, we view Summer Projects as valuable as any internship a student might get. At many internships students do little more than file papers for a superior. While this may look good on a resume, this kind of work does not necessarily translate into true life skills development, leadership growth & awareness or spiritual growth. We believe Summer Projects are invaluable for building these areas into young leaders. Additionally, students CAN look for internships in the area of their Summer Project location (with the exception of Elevate International) and do BOTH at the same time.

WHAT IF MY STUDENT RAISES EXCESS FUNDS?

In the event that your student raises funds in excess of the cost of their project, they can be reimbursed for the cost of travel (flight, gas, hotel), pending the submission of receipts and the balance remaining in the account. Any funds in excess beyond reimbursing travel will go toward making the project better for students, as supporters are ultimately giving to Summer Projects through giving to your student’s specific account.

WHAT IS MY STUDENT RESPONSIBLE FOR IF THEY DROP AFTER THE DROPDATE?

If your student drops from their Summer Project after the designated drop date, they are responsible for paying for their housing contract (and airfare if going to Elevate International) by the end date of the project, as that space has been paid/reserved for them in advance. Funds beyond those amounts can be refunded to supporters by emailing finance@resonate.net.

CAN I VISIT MY STUDENT WHILE THEY ARE ON SUMMER PROJECT?

YES! We highly encourage parents/family/friends to visit their student if possible. It’s fun for you to take a trip and mutually encouraging to you and your student. It allows you to see what they are doing, how they are growing and changing and gives your student an access point to introduce you to new friends, show you around their city and let you into what they’ve been learning in person. If you choose to visit your student while they are on Summer Project, we recommend Thursday-Sunday as the best time frame.

CAN MY STUDENT STILL BE PART OF OUR WEEK-LONG FAMILY VACATION?

Because the project is only 5 or 10 weeks and so much happens in a short time, we do not allow students who are participating in Summer Projects to leave for a week. However, if your student is in a wedding (bridesmaid/groomsman), has a siblings graduation, or some other extenuating circumstance they are able to leave for one weekend trip pending the approval of the project directors. We have found that if a student is continually out of town on weekends, they have issues with employment and also miss out on time developing relationships with co-workers and others on project where they can apply the skills they are learning.

If your student is participating in Elevate International, they are not able to fly back to the States for weddings, graduations, etc because of the time it takes to travel to and from the project.

Additionally, if a family emergency arises, we are more than willing to work with at student for them to be able to be present for those situations.
